Istria – a well kept secret

As you know, we love promoting Croatian destinations and discovering well kept secrets of those regions. Today we are presenting Istria – a peninsula where the most members of our team come from and the area in which we organize most of our weddings.

The region has a lot to offer – delicious wines, traditional gastronomy, striking beaches and historical monuments. So, let us take you on a quick journey around Istria…

HERITAGE

Amphitheater in Pula is probably the best known monument in Croatia dating from ancient times. It is also the 6th biggest amphitheater in the world and very well preserved.

TRUFFLES

People love it or hate it. If you have never tried them, those may easily become your favorite ingredient in the whole wide world. They are usually served will all types of pasta, but there is also a bunch of ready-made truffle products to take home with you.

SMALL TOWNS

The real gem of inland Istrian region are small towns as Groznjan, Motovun, Bale and Hum (which is also known as the smallest town in the world). Most of these town inhabit less than 200 people, but are significantly artistic oriented.

CAPE KAMENJAK

Although Istrian beaches are not quite as popular as the ones in Dalmatia there is a true paradise waiting for you at the very end of the Istrian peninsula. It is a nature park surrounded by 10km of wild rocky beaches and crystal clear blue sea waiting for you to dive in.

ROVINJ

After Dubrovnik it is probably the most popular Croatian town. It is well know because of its spectacular city view. The town is completely charming and offers a great deal of galleries and festivals. It`s beautiful and relaxing so even if you have only few hours to spend in Istria make sure to visit Rovinj. Walk to the church tower and enjoy the unique view.

This is just a scratch on the surface…Istria has many more to offer and you`ll be able to read about it in one of our future posts.
